Beauty and the “extra value” that comes from the care we provide.

What is Welfare Nail Care?

Welfare nail care primarily serves seniors, individuals with illnesses, and those with disabilities. It is provided by welfare nail technicians who are members of the Japan Health and Welfare Nail Association.

Unlike regular nail technicians, welfare nail technicians visit facilities or homes based on the client’s needs. The service is designed not only to enhance physical appearance but also to promote emotional stability and long-lasting positive effects after the treatment.

By carefully assessing the physical condition of seniors and individuals with disabilities, welfare nail technicians create a safe and comfortable environment, customizing the treatment to suit each client’s specific needs.

Let’s Work Towards Care Prevention!

01 Look👀

First, make eye contact and offer a warm smile. During the 10 to 30-minute session, maintain frequent eye contact and share moments of connection.

02 Talk🗣

Speak gently and use positive, encouraging words. Explain each step of the process as you go along. Reminiscence therapy may also be incorporated to stimulate pleasant memories and conversation.

03 Touch🤝

Gently touch the fingertips and arms, providing a sense of comfort and reassurance through soothing physical contact.

~Bringing Smiles through Caring Nails~

During the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, I saw how people in care facilities and nursing homes had fewer opportunities to connect with others. I asked myself, “What can I do to make a difference?” This led me to pursue certification as a welfare nailist.

Through volunteering in Japan, I gained valuable experience and saw firsthand how nail care could bring comfort and joy to seniors. Now in Wellington, I’ve had the privilege to meet and care for many wonderful elderly individuals. Each interaction has broadened my perspective and strengthened my desire to make a positive impact.

Hearing words like, “Thank you so much” and seeing their smiles reminds me why I started this journey. When some of the residents said, “Please come regularly,” I knew I wanted to reach even more people and bring smiles to their faces.

This is why I started my service—to support not just their physical well-being, but also their mental health, even in a small way. I hope to continue making a difference, one caring touch at a time.
